7mm Track Templates

Postby garethevans1986 » Wed Jul 28, 2010 12:18 pm

Hi All

I'm looking for some 7mm Track Templates either paper or electronic.

C&L have item F7111 "7mm finescale 32mm - set of 27 templates" for £26- http://www.finescale.org.uk/index.php?o ... 7templates

Has anybody got any recommendations?

Thank you

Your in the same boat as I.......I searched for a long time and came up with nothing, its even more annoying that Peco provide free downloadable templates for 4mm but not for the 7mm range!
Best regards David

Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, I may wish to offend again.

Templot (http://www.templot.com/) is another option I suppose but £46.50 a license....which I can't quite make out whether it's tied to the person or computer....if it's the computer then what happens to the license if the OS/machine dies or hardware changes...?

I have a set of PECO ones, you have to send off an A4 SAE and the label from a length of track or point (of the right gauge!) and they send them back. Word of warning, they are for the bullhead range, not the flatbottom range...

Once you purchase a license you will be on Martin's list. In case of computer trouble and you have to re download the program, Martin will forward a new license number.

Yeah I had PC problems which resulted in me needing to partially rebuild it and reinstall my OS, and yes Martin does provide new keyfiles!! 8)

The license seems to be per person. I've had Templot installed on several computers.

From what Martin said, you can have it installed on numerous machines but you can only use it on one at any time.

Also be aware that Templot is based around bullhead track geometry, not Flatbottom. I do have somewhere a disc of plans of most S&C used on the network in Flatbottom rail somewhere in the house!

Daft question - but how would different rail types affect a plan?

With FB rails, Templot only shows the rail head, not the foot. Martin promised to fix this sometimes in the future.

Cheers

of course, the rail head is the same size regardless of the type, but the S&C geometry is different, certainly for more modern stuff.

Depends on how modern. The first set of F/B designs where drop in replacements for bullhead designs (Straight planned switches.) Newer designs where curved planed switches, which Templot can do, you just need to enter the appropraite data. Templot can't currently do vertical switches, as the geometry is completely different. I've not looked at RT60 designs to see if Templot could do those - as they are well out of my period!

As ever British Railway Track (various editions), is your friend in these matters.
